It was a banner year in the Fecteau household - I completed 112 books this year. Although I started MANY, but life is short and time is precious and sometimes I just want to fall in love with a book, rather than waiting for it to get good. So I am sure I miss some gems, but you never know when I will come back to them. It took me five tries to read STRANGE THE DREAMER and it is one of my all time favorites now. Go figure...
As always, I read more YA than anything else this year with 49 titles. Regular old adult books were 40. I mashed picture books, children's books and middle grade into one category and only managed 23 - clearly I am growing up!
Fiction vs. non-fiction is an embarrassing 97 to 15. I read 13 graphic novels or picture books which is a bit of a dip from last year. But I did great with audiobooks! I listened to 3.5 of them on my road trip.
PRAIRIE FIRES deserves a special mention because it was 4,000 hours long and kept me interested the entire time. And yet I only gave it 4 stars because it made me conflicted about someone who heretofore I had loved - Laura Ingalls Wilder. It didn't do a thing to change my opinion of Rose Wilder Lane except make me understand her a little better.
I completed 92 brand new books, reread 18 books and read nearly all of two books before just giving up. Those books were WE ARE THE ANTS by Hutchinson (also one of my audio books) and EDUCATED by Tara Westover. They were both tremendously well written, but I just got fed up with the suffering. I knew Westover ended up okay in the end and I knew Henry was fictional, so I just let them go.
All in all I logged 32,177 pages with an average publication date of 2008. I didn't finish anything published before 1940 and 30 of the books I read were published this year. All about the new and shiny, that's me!
